Indonesian national team coach John Herdman believes his team's 4-0 victory over St Kitts and Nevis in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Series was on target.
Herdman had a positive debut as Indonesian national team coach. The 4-0 victory over St. Kitts and Nevis at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium was secured thanks to a brace from Beckham Putra and one goal each from Ole Romeny and Mauro Ziljstra.
"We set a target before the match to score four goals and keep a clean sheet . We knew we would rotate the squad, and we wanted to give the players who participated in training plenty of opportunities, and I thought they handled the match very professionally," Herdman said at the post-match press conference.
"I think that's the most important thing. It's our first time playing together, just a few training sessions, but yeah, I'm really proud of the players tonight," he said.
In Herdman's view, discipline is crucial for his team to keep a clean sheet. St. Kitts and Nevis did indeed have few chances, and goalkeeper Maarten Paes didn't have much to offer in this match.
“To keep a clean sheet , it’s about discipline, and scoring goals from set pieces is important, we worked hard for that, and some goals in transition, which internationally I think is one of the most important areas of the game,” said the English coach.
