During the study , scientists analyzed data related to the health and diet of more than 38,000 people from 27 European countries. The results showed that people who eat less protein-rich foods are more likely to experience decreased muscle strength and difficulties in performing daily activities. They are also more likely to have problems with walking and climbing stairs, as well as difficulty performing routine tasks such as getting up from a chair or going shopping.

The relationship was not identical between the sexes. According to the study, protein deficiency affects muscle strength more in men, while it is more clearly reflected in mobility in women. The most severe effects were observed in people over the age of 66, which scientists attribute to the body's declining ability to use protein to maintain muscle mass with age.

The researchers emphasize that the study does not prove a direct causal relationship, but it does point to the important role of nutrition in maintaining independence in old age. They say that combining adequate protein intake with physical activity can slow age-related decline in strength and mobility.
