La Liga leaders Barcelona continued their winning streak with a 1-0 victory at Athletic Club .
Barca's 22nd league win puts them at the top of the table with 67 points. The Catalans are four points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid, who secured a 2-1 victory at sixth-placed Celta Vigo on Saturday (March 7). Real Madrid sits second with 63 points.
Third-placed Atletico Madrid is a significant laggard behind the top two. Atletico, who secured their third consecutive win with a 3-2 victory over Real Sociedad on Sunday, are in third place with 54 points.
Fourth-placed Villarreal also has 54 points after 2-1 win over Elche. The Yellow Submarine trails Atletico by only goal difference, leaving them one place behind.
Real Betis failed to pick up any points in Week 27. Visiting Getafe, Betis lost 0-2, leaving them in fifth place with 43 points.
In contrast to the top of the table, competition at the bottom remains quite fierce. Sixteenth-placed Alaves suffered their second consecutive defeat, losing 3-2 to Valencia on Monday, a loss that left them with 27 points.
Below Alaves is Elche, who are in 17th place. Elche, who lost 2-1 to Villarreal, now have 26 points, just one point ahead of Mallorca in 18th place.
Mallorca's 2-2 draw with Osasuna kept them in 18th place, now with 25 points. Levante, in 19th place, now has 22 points after Saturday's 1-1 draw with Girona, and bottom-placed Real Oviedo will play their 26th-week match against Espanyol.
