Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology for the 2019–2024 period Nadiem Anwar Makarim revealed that the selection of Chromebooks and Chrome Device Management in the education digitalization program was made with the approval of the relevant director general.
Nadiem stated that the selection was based on the results of a technical team study which was ultimately decided by the directorate with the approval of the director general in question.
"It's always been like that," Nadiem said while testifying as a crown witness at the Corruption Court hearing .
Despite having the prerogative to express opinions and give orders, Nadiem admitted that at that time he did not interrupt the selection of Chromebooks in the program or change the choice from the Windows system to Chrome.
In this way, according to him, the procurement does not require his approval to proceed.
"That's my answer, but please correct me if Ms. Sri and Mr. Mul have a different opinion," he said.
Nadiem became the crown witness against three defendants, namely former Technology Consultant of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Ibrahim Arief alias Ibam, and Director of Elementary Schools at the Directorate General of Early Childhood Education, Basic Education, and Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology for 2020–2021 Sri Wahyuningsih.
