The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has chosen North Sumatra as the host of the 2026 ASEAN U-19 Championship or the 2026 AFF U-19 Cup from June 1-14.
This decision was stated in a letter from PSSI to the Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, and is part of PSSI's efforts to expand the national football activity center.
"We want to provide opportunities for various regions to participate in international events. North Sumatra has demonstrated strong readiness and support," said PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir in an official.
North Sumatra successfully hosted the 2025 Independence Cup, which was attended by four participants in the 2025 U-17 World Cup, namely Indonesia, Tajikistan, Mali, and Uzbekistan.
According to Erick, this experience shows that North Sumatra has the capacity to host international tournaments.
"We see readiness in terms of facilities and community support," said Erick.
