Putri Kusuma Wardani reaffirmed her determination to prove she is still worthy of being a champion after reaching the final of the 2026 Swiss Open.
Putri advanced to the final of the Super 300 tournament after defeating 2017 world champion Nozomi Okuhara from Japan in two straight games 21-16, 21-13 in the semifinals at St. Jakobshalle, Basel, Saturday local time.
"This is my first final this year, so I'll stay focused and consistent. Whoever my opponent is tomorrow, I'm ready," Putri said in an official statement from the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) after the match.
The top-seeded women's singles player said her success in reaching the final was a response to less than optimal results in the last few tournaments when she was often stopped in the quarterfinals.
He stated that he came to the Swiss Open with great motivation to show the capacity of top Indonesian players.
"I want to prove that I still deserve to be a champion," he said.
In the semifinals, Putri appeared with a mature strategy against Okuhara who is known for having high fighting spirit and solid defense.
