Psychiatrist Subspecializing in Addiction Psychiatry Dr. dr. Kristiana Siste Kurniasanti, SpKJ(K) highlighted the importance of restricting access to social media for those under 16 years of age to support children's mental health.
the Head of the Psychiatry Department at Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital said that biologically, not all areas of the brain of children under 16 years of age are fully formed.
This is what makes children not fully able to understand the consequences of the actions they take.
"When something high-risk is involved, it must be limited because it affects the child's brain function, which is not yet fully developed. Therefore, determining whether it poses a high risk for the child requires strict supervision. This means the child cannot be left to make the choice on his own," said Kristiana.
Kristiana believes that restricting access to social media for children under 16 can help children avoid various high-risk negative impacts.
