Washington approves $16.5 billion in arms deals for three Arab countries

The US State Department announced its approval of potential arms deals with three Arab countries worth a total of more than $16.5 billion, against the backdrop of military escalation in the region.

According to the ministry's data, the potential sale of missiles, drones, radar systems, F-16 aircraft munitions and upgrades to the United Arab Emirates, with a total value exceeding $8.4 billion, has been approved.

The approvals also included a potential sale of lower-level air and missile defense radar systems to Kuwait, at an estimated cost of $8 billion, in a move aimed at enhancing Kuwait's air defense capabilities.

In addition, a logistics and technical support deal for aircraft and ammunition for Jordan was approved, at an estimated cost of $70.5 million.

The State Department said the prime contractors in these deals will include RTX Corporation, Northrop Grumman, and Lockheed Martin.

These deals come after Iranian attacks on energy infrastructure in response to Israeli attacks on its gas facilities, which constituted the biggest escalation in the nearly three-week-old war, causing gas prices to spike and oil prices to rise further.
