Alwi Farhan and Raymond/Joaquin took part in the opening match of the Thomas Cup

The Indonesian men's team has entrusted young players Alwi Farhan and debutant pair Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin to appear in the opening match of Group D of the 2026 Thomas Cup against Algeria.

Based on the match schedule, Alwi was placed as the second singles player and will face Mohamed Abderrahime Belarbi. Meanwhile, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting will play in the third match against Mohamed Abdelaziz Ouchefoun.

In the opening match, Jonatan Christie is scheduled to face Adel Hamek. This lineup demonstrates Indonesia's strategy of continuing to rely on its core singles players while also allowing room for younger players to shine.

In the doubles sector, the pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri will be the mainstays in the fourth match against Mohamed Abderrahime Belarbi/Koceila Mammeri.

Meanwhile, in the fifth match, the young pair Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin will make their debut against Adel Hamek/Mohamed Abdelaziz Ouchefoun.

The placement of Alwi and Raymond/Joaquin represents a regeneration effort within the Indonesian men's team. This trust also serves as a test for the young players to demonstrate their readiness for the world's most prestigious team event.

Overall, the team composition combines experience and potential, with Jonatan Christie and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting remaining the backbone in the singles department, and Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in the doubles department.

Indonesia is favored to win against Algeria on paper. However, the opening match is crucial for building momentum and maintaining the team's performance. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:30 PM WIB.

After facing Algeria, Indonesia is scheduled to face Thailand on April 26, before closing the group stage by facing France.
