Recent news reports have revealed that Apple is working on developing its own smart glasses, despite being relatively behind its competitors in this field.

According to a Bloomberg report, the company is currently testing four different designs for its upcoming product, attempting to cater to all tastes and increase its chances of success in a market currently dominated by giants like Meta. Apple is expected to release some or all of these designs, according to analyst Mark Gurman in his Bloomberg report.

The four designs Apple is currently testing include a large rectangular frame similar to Ray-Ban's iconic Wayfarer sunglasses, a thinner rectangular frame resembling those worn by CEO Tim Cook, a large oval or round frame, and a smaller oval or round frame option. Apple is also working on a range of colors, including black, ocean blue, and light brown.

These glasses, currently codenamed N50, will be a direct competitor to the second generation of Ray-Ban's Mita smart glasses. Despite their significant similarities, Apple aims to differentiate its design with oval lenses featuring ambient lighting, according to the report. Functionally, the glasses will be able to capture photos and videos, just like their competitors, but their most important and distinctive feature is their superior integration with iPhones. This allows users to fully utilize Apple's ecosystem for editing and sharing media, making calls, receiving notifications, playing music, and even using the Siri voice assistant.

The launch of the glasses is expected to coincide with the arrival of an improved version of "Siri" that will be released with iOS 27.

As for the launch date, Gorman expects Apple to unveil its smart glasses at the end of 2026 or the beginning of 2027, with an official market launch in 2027.
