Fraudulent schemes under the guise of lost packages are becoming increasingly prevalent amidst the rise in digital transaction activity, with perpetrators impersonating logistics companies to defraud victims.
"There is Rp 9.1 trillion of public funds reportedly lost due to this scam," said the Chairperson of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Friderica Widyasari Dewi in a working meeting with Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives in March 2026, quoted from an official statement from SPX Express on Wednesday.
This method is carried out by the perpetrator contacting the victim via WhatsApp or telephone, claiming there is a problem with the package, such as it being lost or needing to be returned, then asking for personal data or a money transfer.
