Chinese President Xi Jinping and Mozambican President Daniel Francisco Chapo held talks in Beijing on Tuesday, and the two heads of state agreed to strengthen their bilateral relations into a China-Mozambique community sharing a common future in the new era.
Xi noted that China is ready to work with Mozambique to seize the opportunity presented by the implementation of the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the China-Africa People's Year 2026 to advance the joint pursuit of modernization.
Xi called on both sides to continue to firmly support each other on issues affecting their core interests and major concerns, to intensify exchanges in various fields and at various levels, including between governments, political parties and legislative assemblies as well as at the subnational level, while strengthening the sharing of experiences in party and state governance.
Noting that the two countries enjoy strong economic complementarity and broad prospects for cooperation, Xi said that China was willing to work with Mozambique to promote greater synergy between development strategies, innovate in modes of cooperation, explore new avenues of cooperation in infrastructure and comprehensive development of the energy and mineral sectors, and actively cultivate growth drivers for cooperation in agriculture, new energy, the digital economy, artificial intelligence and other fields, so as to promote high-quality and sustainable practical cooperation between the two countries.
In an unstable and turbulent world, the two sides should strengthen their coordination and cooperation within the United Nations and other organizations, advocate for a fair and orderly multipolar world and universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, and jointly uphold international fairness and justice, Xi said.
As the repercussions of the conflict in the Middle East affect African countries, China is ready to work hand in hand with Africa to address these challenges, jointly promote peace and work together to advance development, Xi said, calling on both sides to uphold the principles of peace, maintain their commitment to development and promote win-win cooperation.
Starting May 1, China will grant 53 African countries with diplomatic relations zero tariff treatment on 100% of tariff lines, and China will further expand access for African products through means such as upgrading relevant green corridors, Xi said.
For his part, Mr. Chapo stated that China was a true friend and had always provided selfless support and assistance to Mozambique, stressing that his country attached great importance to relations with China, unconditionally adhered to the one-China principle, and supported China in achieving national reunification.
He added that Mozambique was ready to strengthen its solidarity and friendship with China, to cooperate more closely in the fields of economy, trade, agriculture and energy, and to jointly open a new chapter in building a community with a shared future between Mozambique and China in the new era.
Mr. Chapo stated that the implementation of the outcomes of the FOCAC summit in Beijing and China's zero tariff policies towards African countries maintaining diplomatic relations with China will provide significant assistance to the economic and social development of African countries.
Following the talks, the two heads of state witnessed the signing of more than 20 cooperation documents in areas such as cooperation within the framework of the "Belt and Road", the implementation of the Global Security Initiative, the economy and trade, people-to-people exchanges, health care and the media.
The two sides issued a joint statement on building a China-Mozambique community with a shared future in the new era.
On Tuesday evening, Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan hosted a welcome banquet in honor of Chapo and his wife Gueta Selemane Chapo at the Great Hall of the People.
During the talks, Xi said that China and Mozambique had maintained mutual trust and always supported each other since the establishment of their diplomatic relations, setting a fine example of Sino-African friendship and South-South cooperation.
In the new context, the continued deepening of friendly cooperation between China and Mozambique responds to the common aspiration of the peoples of both countries and is in line with the trend of the times where the South is strengthening its solidarity and cooperation to meet challenges together, the Chinese president said.
