The Vice President of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority in Egypt, Engineer Mohamed Ibrahim, revealed the reason for not blocking pornographic websites in Egypt.

During a phone interview on the "Happening in Egypt" program on MBC MASR channel on Wednesday evening, Ibrahim said that blocking pornographic websites is not easy from a technical standpoint, especially when dealing with millions of websites.

He pointed out that there are more than one way to circumvent the blocking in one way or another, stressing that it is not easy.

He explained that the device can handle some VPN networks, but the great development in technology leads to the emergence of some difficulties.

He pointed to the government's announcement that the child SIM card, which provides secure internet packages controlled by the father, will be available before June 30.

A member of the Egyptian House of Representatives has submitted a new request to block pornographic websites in the country and enhance the protection of the digital community, reopening the door to the issue that was previously controversial.

MP Reham Abdel Nabi, a member of the council representing the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, said that she submitted a proposal to the Speaker of the Council, Counselor Hisham Badawi, to block pornographic websites, in light of the large expansion in internet use within Egyptian society, especially among children and teenagers.

She emphasized that her proposal aims to protect young people, strengthen the system of family and educational values, and establish safe and responsible use of the internet, through a set of proposed measures.
