Dr. Leonid Bukhanov, a urologist, stated that some diseases can lead to erectile dysfunction, explaining the health conditions that can cause these symptoms.
Dr. Leonid Bukhanov explains: "Erection depends on several systems working together; blood vessels must dilate rapidly to maintain blood flow, nerves must transmit signals, and hormone levels must maintain sexual desire and tissue response. This mechanism is delicate, so if any of these systems fail, problems with sexual ability may arise."
He added that erectile dysfunction can occur with high blood pressure and atherosclerosis, and may even be one of the first symptoms. It can also result from high blood sugar and diabetic neuropathy, which causes damage to nerve fibers.
In addition, spinal injuries, pelvic surgeries, and severe hernias with radicular symptoms can negatively affect erectile function. Depression, sleep problems, and chronic stress can also cause sexual dysfunction.
