Sleep specialist Dr. Roman Bozenov stated that older people need the same amount of sleep as younger people.
According to him, sleep quality declines with age, and the number of deep sleep stages decreases. The number of nighttime awakenings also increases. These changes are normal.
He says: “The process of organ and system regeneration continues. But the only thing is that the person begins to feel more physically tired, but this does not necessarily require more sleep. The person begins to worry about this and tries to find a solution. So he goes to the doctor and tells him that he is having difficulty sleeping. The doctor immediately prescribes sleeping pills.”
But Bozhinov warns that this approach to solving the problem could lead to drug addiction, cognitive decline, and dementia-like conditions.
To avoid this, it is advisable to avoid napping during the day, otherwise this time will be deducted from your nighttime sleep. The human body needs a certain number of hours of sleep, after which it will not rest.
