Iran has demanded compensation from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain and Jordan, claiming that these countries participated in the American-Israeli war on Tehran.
This came in a letter sent by Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Saeed Irvani, to the Secretary-General of the international organization, Antonio Guterres, and to the Presidency of the Security Council, and published by Iranian state television on Tuesday.
The letter noted that Iran had previously submitted to the Security Council evidence based on monitoring and assessment reports issued by the Iranian armed forces, indicating that the aforementioned countries had allowed their territories to be used in US-Israeli attacks.
In his letter, Irvani said: “Iran has been informed that the aggressors used the territories of these countries, and that they were directly involved in some of the illegal attacks that targeted civilian targets.”
The letter stressed that these five countries “violated their international obligations,” and that all material and moral damages inflicted on Iran must be compensated.
On March 21, Irvani submitted a report to the UN Secretariat and the Security Council Presidency, in which he claimed that the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait allowed their territories and airspace to be used in attacks launched by the United States and Israel against Iran.
For her part, Iranian government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani stated that war reparations are estimated at around $270 billion.
In a statement to the Russian news agency RIA Novosti on Tuesday, Mohajerani explained that the issue of war reparations was a priority for the Iranian negotiating team during the talks held in Islamabad.
She added that compensation is an issue that President Masoud Pezeshkian has previously raised on various occasions.
She stated that initial estimates indicate that the losses resulting from the war amount to $270 billion, and that the exact figure will be determined as soon as it is announced by the relevant authorities.
Mohajerani noted that the compensation would cover damages to civilian buildings, businesses and factories, as well as the rights of the female students who lost their lives in the attack on the elementary school in Minab.
On March 22, Iranian Health Minister Mohammad Reza Zafarkandi announced that 168 girls were killed in an American-Israeli bombing that targeted the “Good Tree” primary school for girls in the city of Minab in southern Iran on February 28.
