Italy: From Go to Monopoly, board games transcend generations

Organized as part of Milan Design Week 2026, the exhibition offers an immersive experience in the world of board games, inviting visitors to explore a giant 90-square-meter Risk board and discover some sixty games, from the oldest to the most contemporary. Far from a purely museum-like approach, the project places play at the heart of design by encouraging the public to handle the objects and participate in games. On view until May 10, the event brings together classics such as Go, the Royal Game of Ur, chess, and backgammon, alongside modern titles like Monopoly and Connect Four. Through games from all eras, the curators present play as a social space where strategy, interaction, and enjoyment intertwine. Designers like Spartaco Albertarelli highlight the role of play in understanding social dynamics, while handcrafted pieces, ranging from custom-made carrom tables to luxury editions, illustrate the link between creation and tradition. A dedicated space, the "Ludoteca", allows visitors to play freely, transforming the exhibition into a friendly and participatory experience.
