World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA), and International Boxing Federation (IBF) women's welterweight (66.7 kg) world champion Lauren Price retained all three of her championship belts after defeating Stephanie Pineiro Aquino in Cardiff, Wales, Sunday WIB.
Price scored a unanimous decision victory with scores of 98-92, 98-92, and 99-91, leading for most of the 10 rounds on the scorecards.
From the start of the fight, Price immediately demonstrated control of the tempo, utilizing quick hand and footwork. The Welshman maintained disciplined distance and repeatedly landed accurate jabs , making it difficult for Pineiro to develop an attack.
Pineiro, who came in with an undefeated record, tried to apply pressure by charging forward. The Puerto Rican boxer repeatedly attempted to close the distance to unleash combinations of punches to the body and head. However, his attempts were frequently thwarted by Price's tight defense and agile movement around the ring.
As the middle rounds entered, Price became increasingly dominant, utilizing a combination of jabs and straight right hands to control the fight. Pineiro continued to attempt to counter with some counters, but most of his punches weren't clean enough to disrupt the defending champion's dominance.
Despite dominating the fight, Price had a difficult time when he suffered a severe laceration to his mouth near the end of the fourth round. Blood was seen flowing from his lip after taking a heavy blow from Pineiro during a close-range exchange.
However, this condition didn't significantly impact Price's performance. He maintained his composure and displayed a champion's mentality, remaining in control of the fight until the final rounds.
