Sierra Leone: Agreement with Shell for oil exploration

Shell will conduct advanced geological and geophysical studies on several offshore blocks in Sierra Leone.

The British oil company announced on Wednesday that it had signed an agreement with the East African country allowing these activities.

In a statement, Shell emphasizes that the permit linked to the agreement covers an area of approximately 20,600 square kilometers and includes basin modeling and petroleum system analysis.

For now, it is still a data-driven framework for technical evaluation and possible participation in licensing opportunities.

But in the meantime, the company is displaying its ambitions, including accelerating the process leading to exploration drilling.
