Liverpool manager Arne Sloat appeared optimistic about his team's future despite their exit from the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday against defending champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Paris Saint-Germain beat hosts Liverpool 2-0 at Anfield, the same scoreline by which the French team won the first leg in Paris.
"I think we've made significant progress compared to last week," Slot said at the post-match press conference. "I can only commend the players for their tremendous effort. I also can only commend our fans for supporting us tonight in executing our game plan. This means that in high-pressure situations, having the fans behind us is a crucial factor in constantly encouraging us. And that's what they did."
The Dutch coach added in his remarks, which were reported on Liverpool's official website: "Unfortunately, this is one of many examples this season where we have failed to score from the numerous chances we have had. Once again, our performance has been below the expected level in terms of scoring, and this is a recurring problem for us throughout the season."
Slot continued: "Of course, we are very disappointed, because at some points in the second half, we could feel that if we had scored now, this would have been a special night. But the future looks very bright for this team and for this club, because we have proven our ability to compete with the European champions on our home ground and to be the dominant team. There aren't many teams that can dominate Paris Saint-Germain and create this many chances. But yes, chances are one thing, and scoring is another."
