Spain launches a new vessel to support divers

The Spanish Freire shipyard recently witnessed the launching of a new vessel, developed to support the diving forces of the national fleet.

The new vessel will be delivered to the Spanish Navy's Military Diving School (Escuela Militar de Buceo – EMB), to be used in supporting diving forces in training missions, maritime inspection missions, and port and marine facility maintenance missions.

The new Proserpina ship is 32.9 m long and 9 m wide, and can move at a speed of 12 knots, covering 500 nautical miles on each mission. Its basic crew consists of 15 people.

One of the ship's key features is its DP2 level dynamic positioning system, which will allow it to stay in place with high precision during diving and underwater search operations, which is especially important when working in tight spaces or where anchoring is not appropriate.

The ship will also be equipped with advanced sonar systems, mini-submarines, and autonomous submarines, as well as equipment to help divers perform their tasks at depths of up to 90 m.
