The government, through the Directorate General of Digital Infrastructure at the Ministry of Communication and Digital , is preparing a plan to evenly distribute data centers, not only focusing on large cities in Western Indonesia but also in Eastern Indonesia.
Equal distribution of data centers is important to ensure coverage is not concentrated in just one region, and this will of course be coordinated across relevant ministries.
"So, we are currently preparing a master plan for data centers for private. We will try to ensure that data centers are established not only in the western region but also in the eastern regions," Wayan said.
According to a report by market research firm Mordor Intelligence, the data center industry in Indonesia could grow to US$1.83 billion by 2026 and generate revenues of up to US$3.48 billion by 2031.
Discussing its coverage, Jakarta is the most chosen area for industry players to operate their data centers because of its massive fiber network and being the anchor point for the submarine cable network.
