Health care specialist Professor Nina Vishnevskaya reported that when the gut microbiome is imbalanced, beneficial bacteria decrease, leading to a reduction in the production of sufficient amounts of happiness hormones.
According to her, symptoms such as unexplained chronic fatigue, persistent sleep disturbances, anxiety, apathy, low mood, or depression unresponsive to conventional treatment (whether psychotherapy or antidepressants), especially in the absence of a clear psychological cause, may indicate problems with the digestive system.
She says: "This is very important, especially if the psychological symptoms are accompanied by digestive problems, such as bloating, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, or intolerance to certain foods."
The professor recommends, in addition to regular medical checkups, adopting a healthy lifestyle that includes eating fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and moderate amounts of lean meat, fish, and dairy products. She also advises eating small meals four to five times a day and avoiding alcohol and smoking. Regular physical activity, such as walking, running, and swimming, is important for improving bowel movements and promoting overall health.
