Türkiye to restrict social media access for children under 15

The Turkish Parliament has approved a draft law that would ban all children under 15 from using social media.

As reported  social media platforms will be required to implement an age verification system, provide parental control features, and respond more quickly to harmful content uploaded on their services.

The bill was drafted after two deadly school shootings in Türkiye. Following these incidents, police arrested 162 people accused of distributing footage of the incidents online.

The bill now awaits Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's approval within 15 days before it can officially become law. Erdoğan previously called social media platforms "accumulators of filth" in a nationally televised address.
