US expects Washington-Tehran talks on Thursday... Pakistan confirms the date for the second round has not yet been decided

The Associated Press quoted US officials as saying that a new round of negotiations between Washington and Tehran could be held next Thursday.

The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, explained that the United States and Iran intend to hold a face-to-face meeting before the temporary ceasefire expires.

They confirmed that preparations for the meeting are underway, but without revealing the identities of the members of the delegations participating in the negotiations, according to what the agency reported yesterday, Monday.

Officials indicated that negotiations could be held again in Islamabad, and Geneva is also an option for the talks expected to be held next Thursday.

A Pakistani diplomatic official stated on Tuesday that the date for the second round of planned negotiations between Iran and the United States has not yet been set.

An official in the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, who preferred not to reveal his name, denied in an interview with the Qatari channel Al Jazeera the validity of the news circulating about the holding of the second round of negotiations next Thursday.

He confirmed, saying: “No date has yet been set for the second round of negotiations between the United States and Iran.”

In this context, US Vice President J.D. Vance spoke of “significant progress” during the Pakistan talks, noting that the continuation of negotiations and reaching a possible agreement depend on Iran.

He stated in an interview with Fox News on Monday that there is a possibility of further talks and reaching an agreement, adding that "the ball is in Iran's court."

Last Sunday, Iran and the United States announced the end of negotiations held in Islamabad without reaching a final agreement to end the war, amid an exchange of accusations between the two sides regarding responsibility for the failure.

On April 8, Washington and Tehran announced a two-week truce brokered by Pakistan, as a prelude to broader negotiations to end the war that the United States and Israel launched against Iran on February 28.
