Business Insider reported that a Russian medium-range reconnaissance aircraft was spotted in the airspace of the special military operation area, carrying FPV-type drones under its wings
The first image of a Russian reconnaissance drone has appeared online, which has been given a new function in addition to monitoring, reconnaissance and video signal enhancement tasks, which is to carry and launch FPV suicide drones.
This refers to the Russian Orlan-30 drone, equipped with a pair of small FPV drones mounted under its wings. These attack drones were installed under the long wing of the mother aircraft, which is about 3 meters long, while Russian specialists concealed the signal relay unit inside the aircraft's fuselage.
Business Insider noted that Russia had previously used the Guran and Gerbera drones as carrier platforms for unmanned aerial vehicles, but the Orlan-30 stands out as a versatile and reusable platform.
The portal added that using a drone as a carrier for FPV drones equipped with a signal relay unit allows for a significant expansion of the operating range of these aircraft.
Business Insider sees the emergence of this new platform as a further innovation demonstrating how relatively simple technologies can be combined to achieve higher operational efficiency.
