A Palestinian prisoner died from his injuries a month after his arrest in the northern West Bank

The young man Qusay Ibrahim Ali Rayyan (29 years old) from the town of Qarawat Bani Hassan, west of Salfit, in the northern occupied West Bank, was martyred, about a month after his arrest following his injury by a settler’s bullet.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club and the Commission of Detainees Affairs reported that the occupation forces arrested Rayan, a father of a child, after he was shot by a settler in the Wadi Abbas area near the town of Deir Istiya, before his death was announced today in the Israeli “Beilinson” hospital, as a result of his serious injuries.

In a joint statement, the commission and the club explained that the occupation authorities claimed, upon arresting Ryan, that he had attempted a stabbing attack, and his detention was extended for eight days. At that time, his lawyer demanded full clarification regarding his health condition, which appeared extremely critical, after Ryan appeared via video conference following repeated requests from the lawyer to see him, particularly after being informed that he was unconscious and on a ventilator.

The Prisoners Affairs Authority and the Prisoners Club confirmed that the claims made by the occupation prosecution regarding his intention to carry out a stabbing operation were “false and incorrect,” noting that in similar cases, the prosecution insisted on continuing the detention, which means that Ryan was killed in cold blood based on false claims and allegations.

The two institutions added that this crime comes in the context of the ongoing crimes committed by the occupation against the Palestinian people since the beginning of the genocide, in various Palestinian areas, including field executions that have not stopped, but have escalated in the West Bank, in light of the practices of the colonists (settlers) who have become a major tool in killing Palestinians, alongside the Israeli occupation army forces that provide them with full cover.

The two organizations pointed out that there are hundreds of wounded detainees whose numbers have increased following the genocide, as the occupation continues to arrest and detain them in oppressive and tragic conditions, and they are subjected, like all prisoners, to systematic crimes that constitute another facet of genocide.

The Authority and the Club held the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for the martyrdom of Qusay Rayyan, and renewed their demand to international human rights institutions to end the state of inaction and put an end to the state of complicity regarding the continuation of the genocidal approach against the Palestinian people, including the executions and field killings that have turned into a policy practiced daily, in addition to urgent intervention to stop the crimes committed against prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons.
