After a stop in Egypt, French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Nairobi, Kenya. He will participate this Monday in the Africa Forward summit scheduled for May 11 and 12. Upon his arrival on Sunday, he met with Kenyan President William Ruto at the Statehouse.
For the first time, this Africa-France summit focused on economic investments is being held in an English-speaking country.
This will also be the first meeting with other heads of state and government of African countries, under the auspices of the French president, since his election in 2017. The previous event, which took place in Montpellier in 2021, consisted of a meeting with African civil society.
The first day of Africa Forward will be dedicated to a business forum. Discussions on other major topics, such as the restitution of cultural property to African countries and sports, are also planned, as well as a meeting with students. Tuesday's agenda includes meetings with other leaders.
The following day, Wednesday, May 13, Emmanuel Macron will travel to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He will make his first visit to the headquarters of the African Union. The French president is also scheduled to meet with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
