Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency said on Sunday that a proposed memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States would end the war on all fronts, with Washington lifting sanctions on Iranian oil during negotiations.
The agency added that Iran has not yet accepted any measures regarding its nuclear program, saying that the potential agreement allocates a 30-day period for measures related to the Strait of Hormuz and a 60-day period for nuclear talks.
The memorandum also states that the number of ships able to cross the Strait of Hormuz will return to its pre-war level within 30 days.
The agency added that the naval blockade must be completely lifted within 30 days under the proposed memorandum of understanding, and that part of Iran’s frozen funds should be released in the first phase.
Earlier, Axios news website quoted a US official as saying that the United States and Iran were close to signing an agreement that would extend the ceasefire for 60 days, during which the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened.
The agreement also stipulates that Iran will be able to sell oil freely, and that negotiations will be held regarding curbing the Iranian nuclear program.
According to an Axios report, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened during the 60-day period without fees being imposed, and Iran will agree to remove the mines it planted in the strait to allow ships free passage.
The report added that, in return, as part of the proposed agreement, the United States would lift its blockade on Iranian ports and issue some sanctions waivers to allow Iran to sell oil freely.
The report said the draft agreement also includes commitments from Iran never to seek nuclear weapons and to negotiate the suspension of its uranium enrichment program and the removal of its stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
Two sources told Axios that Iran has made verbal commitments to the United States, through intermediaries, regarding the scope of concessions it is prepared to make on suspending enrichment and giving up nuclear materials.
The Axios report stated that the United States would also agree to negotiate the lifting of sanctions and the unfreezing of Iranian funds during the 60-day period.
The White House has not yet responded to a request for comment on the report.
