Scientists at Sechenov University have developed an AI-powered smart medical system to help foreign patients, allowing them to describe their condition in their native language and upload their medical documents via a smart camera
According to the developers, after completing this process, doctors receive a comprehensive medical record for the patient in Russian. This innovative system supports ten languages, including Hindi, Chinese, Arabic, Tajik, and Uzbek, among others, allowing patients to bypass the initial consultation stage without needing an interpreter.
“We are not just creating a translator, but an integrated medical system that will contribute to the development of medical tourism in Russia and facilitate access to advanced medical care for patients from friendly countries,” says Ulyana Pokazanikova, founder and director of the startup Medical
To use the service, the patient selects the "Foreigners" section on the clinic's website and then verbally describes their complaint in their native language. The system transcribes the speech, identifies the main symptoms, and asks clarifying questions similar to those a doctor would ask during a consultation. It then provides a summary in the patient's language to ensure the accuracy of the information. Following this, the artificial intelligence suggests scheduling an appointment with a specialist and creates a structured medical record in Russian for the doctor, including the patient's complaints, medical history, and lifestyle.
The developers plan to expand the system's capabilities in the future by adding support for remote consultations and real-time translation of medical conversations.
