Cuba: Havana's only restaurant with a robot waiter

A wind of modernity is blowing through Havana. One restaurant has decided to embrace high technology. At Doña Alicia's, a robot now brings your dish to the table.

It all starts with an order placed via a digital menu, using the Alexa voice assistant, then the robot takes over and delivers. Doña Alicia restaurant, open for seven years, has introduced technology in stages: tablets, voice assistants, and now, robotics. This approach coincides with the rise of internet access on the island.

Mobile internet has only been available since 2018, but today it's accessible to over 70% of Cubans. In Cuba, this type of service remains an exception and a bold gamble. The manager, Yadiel Hernández, stands by his choice: " It allowed us to reach other types of customers and surprise them because it's something new."

Frequent power outages and a lack of technicians or spare parts make this type of automation particularly difficult to maintain in Cuba.
