Egypt: Sisi's advisor reveals the truth about the discovery of Hantavirus infections

The Egyptian president's health advisor, Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, announced that preventive medicine in Egypt has not yet detected any presence of the Hanta virus in the country

The Egyptian president's health advisor, Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, announced that preventive medicine in Egypt has not yet detected any presence of the Hanta virus in the country.

Taj El-Din added, in televised statements on Saturday morning, that the Egyptian health authorities are closely monitoring the developments of the global situation, through the application of surveillance and follow-up procedures at air, sea and land ports, noting that there is a great deal of transparency, as happened during the Coronavirus period

He continued: "It is in everyone's interest to announce and raise awareness about any cases that are detected," stressing that "awareness and announcement are very important as a form of prevention against these viruses."

He explained that the Hanta virus is not new, but has been scientifically known for years and is mainly found in rodents. Only one rare strain is transmitted to humans, stressing that infections with the virus are very limited and its effects are mild so far.

He noted that its symptoms include high temperatures, body aches and respiratory symptoms, in addition to severe vomiting in some cases, stressing that the virus is rare, especially the type that is transmitted from human to human.

He pointed out that dealing with the matter requires caution and awareness without being swayed by fear or exaggeration, especially since prevention depends mainly on maintaining public hygiene and controlling rodents.

Yesterday, the Egyptian Ministry of Health issued a statement in response to rumors, confirming that the health situation inside Egypt is "stable and completely safe," and that there are no confirmed cases of the virus in the country, according to the results of continuous epidemiological surveillance and close monitoring carried out by the ministry's agencies in coordination with all relevant national and international bodies.

The ministry stated that it is following with great interest the reports circulating about the Hanta virus, and what has been raised about recording limited cases linked to a cruise ship outside Egypt.
