Football: Salah will be able to play again this season

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah will return from injury in time to give his farewell in style, but he will not be ready for Sunday's game at Manchester United.

The Egyptian forward, who leaves the club at the end of this season, apparently injured his hamstring during last Saturday's victory against Crystal Palace . Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirmed on Friday that Salah would return to action before the end of the season.

“He usually recovers faster than other players after a minor injury—because this is a minor injury—so we expect him to be back for the end of the season, but not for Sunday ,” Slot said. “It’s a huge relief that his injury is minor, so he can play for us and be able to compete in the World Cup. If there’s one player who deserves such a send-off, it’s Mo.”

Salah announced at the end of March that he was leaving the club a year earlier than planned. This was his ninth season at Anfield.

Key player for Egypt

At 33, Salah had a disappointing season, marked in particular by a public dispute with Slot. He scored only seven Premier League goals , after finishing as the league's top scorer last season with 29.

Liverpool have four matches remaining this season, which concludes on May 24th with Brentford visiting Anfield. Slot's team are three points behind Manchester United , who sit third in the table, with both sides vying for a Champions League spot.

Egypt is in Group G of the World Cup and will begin the competition against Belgium on June 15 before facing New Zealand and Iran . Egypt has never won a World Cup match in its three appearances.

His last participation dates back to the 2018 edition in Russia, where Salah was hampered by a shoulder injury sustained during the Champions League final a few weeks earlier, when Liverpool lost to Real Madrid .
