French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced on Thursday that Paris will host an international meeting on June 12 dedicated to the two-state solution.
In a video message broadcast during a peace rally in Tel Aviv, Barrow said that Paris would host “an international conference so that Israeli and Palestinian civil society organizations can make their voices heard” following France’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine in September.
The meeting is organized by the “It’s Time” coalition, which presents itself as an alliance of 80 organizations working together to end the conflict through a political agreement that guarantees both peoples the right to self-determination and a safe life.
Hundreds of people participated in the march, which was organized on Thursday afternoon in Tel Aviv.
The government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, one of the most right-wing in Israel's history, opposes the establishment of a fully sovereign and independent Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. In practice, this government is working to make a two-state solution impossible by expanding settlement activity.
