A recent scientific study has shown that the juice of the noni fruit, scientifically known as Morinda citrifolia, may inhibit the growth of stomach cancer cells.
The researchers noted that many studies have pointed to the health benefits of the noni plant or Morinda citrifolia, so they decided to study the effect of this plant's juice on stomach cancer cells in laboratory mice.
The results showed that the juice reduces the vitality of cancer cells, inhibits their proliferation and migration, and slows tumor progression in mice.
Research has also shown that the juice of this fruit stimulates iron death of cells, or ferroptosis, a type of cell death associated with iron accumulation, lipid oxidation, and damage to cell membranes. Studies are being conducted to use this type of cell death to treat tumors.
The researchers explained that this effect of fruit juice is related to some of the substances it contains, such as flavonoids, including apigenin, naringenin, and curcumol, and their effect on signaling pathways that control cell health.
Morinda citrifolia is a seasonal fruit grown in Southeast Asia, Australia and many tropical regions. It was used in traditional medicine and is also used in the manufacture of nutritional supplements in the form of juices or medicine capsules.
