Ghana: Footballer Thomas Partey denies new rape allegations

Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey has once again contested the accusations against him in British court.

Aged 32, he appeared Monday before Southwark Crown Court in London, where he pleaded not guilty to two new alleged rape charges, related to events that reportedly took place in December 2020.

Several accusations grouped together

These new charges are in addition to those already announced in 2025, relating to five rape charges and one sexual assault charge concerning alleged events that occurred between 2021 and 2022.

In total, Thomas Partey now faces seven rape charges and one sexual assault charge, involving four complainants. He denies all of these accusations.

The court decided to group all the charges into a single proceeding, which could postpone the start of the trial until 2027.

A career under pressure

According to his lawyer, the player continues to firmly deny the allegations against him and claims to have cooperated with the authorities throughout the investigation.

Former Arsenal player Thomas Partey now plays for the Spanish club Villarreal. He remains free on bail pending his trial.

Despite this legal procedure, the player could participate in the next World Cup scheduled for June, although a recent injury raises some uncertainties.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 14th for the continuation of the proceedings.
