Madagascar: The electoral commission unveils its timetable

Madagascar's independent electoral commission has unveiled its timetable for the upcoming elections expected in the country.

The CENI has announced a constitutional referendum in June 2027 which will be followed by a presidential election in October.

This agenda marks the beginning of the political transition planned since the fall of President Andry Rajoelina last October following a mutiny by the army joined by an uprising of the GenZ movement, led by young people.

Since then, Colonel Michael Randrianirina has been in power at the head of the Refoundation government for a 24-month transition validated by the international community.

The electoral commission is therefore giving itself eleven months to rebuild the electoral register after having erased all existing databases.

This announcement comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission has just renewed its permanent bureau.
