Former UFC fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov clarified the truth about the reasons for his retirement, stressing that his decision was not related to money as had been rumored.
Nurmagomedov's comments came in response to what UFC President Dana White said, who indicated that the Russian fighter's retirement came after he acquired a large financial fortune that made him no longer need to continue fighting.
Nurmagomedov responded via his Instagram account, saying that these claims are "completely untrue," stressing that he did not receive those huge sums of money that are being circulated, and that the real reason for his retirement is known to the public and does not need to be explained again.
It is worth noting that the Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov defended the UFC lightweight title three times before retiring from fighting in October 2020.
Nurmagomedov achieved 29 victories in 29 professional fights according to MMA rules, without suffering a defeat. The Russian fought his last fight in October 2020, against American Justin Gaethje, and after retiring, Khabib turned to coaching.
In 2022, Nurmagomedov was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in recognition of his exceptional career and achievements inside the cage.
