Risks of developing early cataracts due to smartphones

Cardiologist Branislav Bogunovic points out that the younger generation, who use smartphones and other digital devices extensively, faces risks related to eye health

Cardiologist Branislav Bogunovic points out that the younger generation, who use smartphones and other digital devices extensively, faces risks related to eye health.

According to him, prolonged screen use leads to stress on the nervous system. Key risk factors include sleep disorders, chronic stress, and a lifestyle associated with constant digital engagement.

He says: "Exposure to radiation from screens, or eye strain, may lead to early cataracts many years later. To reduce these risks, screen brightness should be reduced at night and the duration of device use should be controlled."

The doctor emphasizes that cardiovascular diseases are rare among young people, although there are isolated cases of high blood pressure. However, the main problem lies in behavioral factors—chronic fatigue and sleep disturbances—rather than physical illnesses. According to him, "Computers don't get tired, they just overheat; humans do," highlighting the cumulative effect of excessive digital technology use.

The doctor points out that the younger generation is generally more health-conscious than previous generations. They are also more committed to a healthy diet and physical activity. However, they are also more prone to digital addiction and psychological stress.

He emphasizes that the effects of these factors may appear in the long term and even have potential consequences at the age of thirty.
