Sixteen of the world's best women's teams will compete in the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 Women's Series Shanghai 2026, at Shanghai Global Harbor, China, on May 16-17, to compete for points and win the championship title.
The FIBA 3x3 website stated on Saturday that the tournament was the second FIBA 3x3 Women's Series this season, held in China and featuring a number of national teams and elite clubs from various continents.
The Netherlands is the top seed, strengthened by world number one players Janis Boonstra and Noortje Driessen.
Meanwhile, defending champion Canada is seeded second with Paige Crozon as its mainstay.
Besides the two favorites, the tournament also features Australia, Austria, Czechia, Thailand, as well as strong clubs such as Ulaanbaatar Amazons, Neftchi SOCAR, and Mitsubishi Electric.
Six teams will first play the qualifying round on Saturday (16/5) morning, to compete for two tickets to the main round which starts in the afternoon and the following day.
During the main round, 12 teams are divided into four groups and the two best teams from each group qualify for the quarter-finals or knockout phase.
Shanghai is seen as one of the most important races of the season as it features some very tight intercontinental competition.
FIBA 3x3 also stated that, in addition to competing for the championship title, each team is also chasing standings points that determine their position and chances of qualifying for major FIBA 3x3 tournaments throughout 2026.
