SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket launched an American probe and a Japanese probe last night. This NASA lunar mission is noteworthy because Elon Musk's reusable rocket was launched with two probes built by private companies on board.
Falcon 9 took off Wednesday at 6:11 GMT from Cape Canaveral towards the Moon.
The American probe named Blue Ghost was developed by the company Firefly Aerospace for NASA, the Japanese probe named Resilience by the company Ispace.
The two companies shared the journey to save money, taking separate, circuitous routes for the multi-month trip. They hope to repeat the feat of Intuitive Machines, the only private company to have landed a spacecraft on the Moon.
