The Irawati Moerid Tennis Club Junior Tennis Championship, Deputy Minister of Defense Marshal TNI (Ret.) Donny Ermawan Cup, is being used as a platform to identify potential young tennis players from various regions.
The tournament at the Ministry of Defense Tennis Court, Cawang, East Jakarta, was attended by 250 junior tennis players from 80 regions with age categories ranging from 8 to 18 years.
"There has been some hesitation among tennis players after completing their junior years. They have to decide whether to continue playing tennis or go to school, given the lack of junior tennis tournaments in the country," said IMTC Director Irawati Moerid in a written statement on Friday.
Irawati said the IMTC focuses on developing young tennis players through tiered competitions to increase the playing time of young athletes and maintain the regeneration of national tennis players.
According to him, the more junior tournaments held, the greater the opportunity to find potential athletes.
