This came in a statement to journalists, ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers scheduled to be held in the Belgian capital, Brussels, on Monday.
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy explained that the proposal was put forward by France and Sweden in late April.
In November 2015, the European Commission, the executive arm of the European Union, agreed to label products from Israeli settlements to distinguish them.
The European Union considers Israeli settlements "illegal and an obstacle to peace".
Approximately 750,000 Israeli settlers reside in 141 settlements and 224 outposts in the West Bank, including about 250,000 in East Jerusalem, which the United Nations considers part of the occupied Palestinian territories.
Regarding the EU's relations with Syria, Callas stated that a high-level political dialogue between the EU and Syria would take place on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting, and indicated that the political dialogue would address several issues such as institution building and the situation of minorities in Syria.
Regarding the situation in the Middle East, Callas said that the Union supports a diplomatic solution to the American-Israeli war against Iran, and added that the Union continues to communicate with the countries that are playing a mediating role between the United States and Iran, as well as with the Gulf states.
She continued: "Even if a ceasefire is reached, the Iranian threats to the region require long-term talks. The first objective now is to stop the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz."
The United States and Israel launched a war against Iran on February 28, with the latter responding by launching attacks on Israel and what it said were American sites and interests in countries in the region, before Washington and Tehran announced a temporary truce on April 8, mediated by Pakistan.
On April 11, Pakistan hosted a round of talks between the United States and Iran, but they failed to reach an agreement to end the war, and Trump later announced an extension of the truce without a time limit.
