The fantastic journey of Como 1907

If AS Roma and AC Milan fail to beat their opponents in their final Serie A match on Sunday morning, and Como 1907 wins at the same time, then be prepared that next season you will hear Indonesia's name mentioned more often by European football commentators.

Como 1907 is a small club that was transformed by the Djarum Group, a leading Indonesian conglomerate, into slowly entering the elite layers of Italian football.

The Italian public might not have expected it, but Indonesians who are well acquainted with Djarum's achievements in the world of national sports, especially badminton, will not be surprised by the golden touch of this business group that cares about the development of sports.

Before this, perhaps no one would have expected a club from nowhere like Como to suddenly burst into the elite circles of Italian football.

This season they have confirmed their participation in the Europa League next season.

The Europa League is Europe's second-tier competition below the Champions League.

Next season, Serie A will receive seven European competition slots: four Champions League spots, two Europa League spots, and one Europa Conference League spot.

With 68 points collected, Como 1907 temporarily sits fifth in the Serie A standings, above giants Juventus, thanks to a superior goal difference.

The two teams are only two points behind AC Milan and AS Roma, who are in third and fourth place respectively.

Both Como and Juventus are guaranteed Europa League places, after Inter also won the Coppa Italia.

However, their chances of Champions League qualification are still wide open if Milan and Roma lose or draw their last matches, and they win their last match.

All of that will be decided early Sunday morning.

Como will host Cremonese, who are battling to avoid relegation, Roma will host already-relegated Verona, Milan will host Cagliari, and Juventus will visit Torino.

If you look at Como's position in the Italian League standings this season, one will be amazed at what they have done so far.

Como are one of four teams with the fewest defeats this season, even ahead of Napoli, who are on the verge of finishing second behind Inter Milan.
