Uganda has announced the suspension of all direct flights between it and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as part of precautionary measures taken to limit the spread of the Ebola virus.

This was reported by the Daily Monitor, citing an official statement from the Ugandan authorities.

For its part, the World Health Organization classified the situation regarding the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda as a public health emergency of international concern, warning of the possibility of the danger spreading to other countries.

According to the latest data from Congolese authorities, 131 deaths from the virus have been recorded in the country, as medical teams intensify their efforts to contain the outbreak and provide care for those infected.

At the continental level, Tunisia activated its Ebola health protocol, in continuous coordination with the World Health Organization, immediately following the latest warnings regarding the emergence of cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This protocol relies primarily on close monitoring of travelers arriving from affected areas (such as Congo), by observing for any clinical symptoms such as fever, and in suspected cases, the individual is immediately isolated.

He also pointed out that “the incubation period of the virus is not long, and that the infection is not transmitted through breathing but through direct contact.”

The previous Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo officially ended in October 2025, but the emergence of new infection hotspots has reignited regional and international concerns about a resurgence of the epidemic in Africa's Great Lakes region.
