Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain, has taken his first legal action after the decision to refer him to trial on charges of rape was upheld.

Hakimi’s lawyer, Fanny Paulin, told Reuters that her client will appeal the decision upholding his referral to trial on rape charges before the French Court of Cassation, the country’s highest judicial body, stressing his determination to continue defending his innocence until the truth is revealed.

The Versailles Court of Appeal upheld on the 19th of this month the investigating judge’s decision to refer the 27-year-old player to the criminal court on charges of raping a woman in 2023, after rejecting the appeal filed by the defense team.

Hakimi has denied this charge completely since the beginning of the legal proceedings, asserting his innocence.

It is worth noting that the captain of the Moroccan national team is currently participating with his country in the 2026 World Cup, where the "Atlas Lions" are preparing to play a tough match against the Netherlands in the round of 32 of the tournament.
