An Iranian source: The final text of the memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war is still under review

An informed Iranian source said on Tuesday that the final Iranian text of a potential memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States to end the war is still under discussion and review in Tehran, and that no response has been sent yet, according to Bloomberg News, citing Iran's Mehr News Agency.

The agency quoted the source as saying: “America’s history of not honoring its commitments and our historical pessimism have led Iran to consider the matter very cautiously.”

The source close to the Iranian negotiating team explained that “Iran is basing its decisions on its past experiences and is seeking to achieve real gains.”

The source continued, saying: “America is worried about the war, and we are worried about the agreement because America has spent huge amounts of money on wars and has not achieved success.”

The source emphasized that “Iran has faced non-compliance from the other side before. Therefore, the basis of Iran’s position is the possibility of backtracking and taking concrete executive measures.”

For his part, an Iranian military official said on Tuesday that a resumption of war with the United States was “inevitable” given Washington’s insistence on Tehran’s “surrender”.

Mohammad Jafar Asadi, deputy commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters, the central operations room of the armed forces, said, “The United States is demanding our complete surrender, and the Iranian nation will never surrender.” He added, according to state television, “Without surrender, war is inevitable. Therefore, we are waiting, and war will not frighten us.”
