Dewa United Banten FC player Egy Maulana Vikri shared his first impressions of training with Indonesian national team coach John Herdman, who has been the new captain of the Garuda team since January.
Egy got this opportunity when he was included in the list of 23 players called up by Herdman for a training camp in Jakarta last week in preparation for the ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026 at the end of July.
"Yes, I'm very good as a player. I must always give my best 100 percent whenever I'm called upon by any coach, whenever I'm trusted by any coach," Egy said when met by media crews, including at the ASIOP Stadium.
According to Eggy, the English coach is a very thorough and passionate person. He hopes to absorb the knowledge Herdman imparted during the five-day training camp in last week.
Herdman himself is the coach who returned Canada to the World Cup by leading the country's national team to play in the 2022 World Cup. This was Canada's first World Cup after a 36-year absence.
In Indonesia, he has officiated two Garuda matches, both in the FIFA 2026 Series in March. Herdman, who didn't call up Egy, finished the two matches with a 4-0 victory over Saint Kitts and Nevis and a 0-1 loss to Bulgaria.
