Ghanaian Edem Wosornu appointed head of protection at UNHCR

Ghanaian Edem Wosornu was appointed on Monday to the position of protection officer at the United Nations Refugee Agency by Antonio Guterres.


She will succeed Sri Lankan Ruvendrini Menikdiwela in this position.


Prior to this appointment, Edem Wosornu served as Director of the Crisis Response Division within the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

The Ghanaian woman began her career at the UN as an intern at UNHCR and also worked in the private legal sector in the UK.


His appointment was welcomed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Barham Salih.
