Cardiovascular specialist Dr. Oksana Sinenkova stated that reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease begins with 4,000 steps.

According to her, walking about 4,000 steps a day, instead of 10,000 steps, is enough to maintain good health and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

She says: "Reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease starts with 4,000 to 4,500 steps a day. This is the minimum that allows a person to give up a dangerous sedentary lifestyle. If a person's job requires sitting for long periods, even 4,000 steps a day will be an excellent addition to their health compared to complete inactivity."

According to her, the greatest reduction in the risk of death is observed at an activity level of 7,000 to 8,000 steps per day. After reaching this level, the cardiovascular benefits of walking continue to increase, but not as rapidly.

The doctor points out that the recommended step rate for each person is calculated individually and depends on many factors, such as previous illnesses and age.

She says: "Walking 3,000 steps is a great achievement for a post-myocardial infarction patient. As for adults under the age of 64, brisk walking for 30 minutes five times a week is sufficient, or jogging, swimming or active play for at least 75 to 150 minutes a week."
